Although motocross helmets and goggles are used by Supermoto riders, wearing motocross gloves are not suitable for Supermoto.
The motocross glove offers very little protection in the event of an accident on the road.
The small bones and ligaments in the hand and wrist are easily fractured and recovery is a long ordeal.
Gloves tend to be the first part that hits the tarmac in an accident and with that in mind it’s recommended you don’t skimp on cost.

Supermoto Glove Material

A broken scaphoid is a common injury in bike accidents. Gloves with a palm-heel slider can help prevent this. Look for gloves that have a scaphoid protection system (SPS) built in.
Some gloves have a rubber strip on the index finger for clearing water off the visor. This is a useful feature, but beware if it’s just a suede pad as this will quickly become saturated.

Supermoto Glove Ventilation
In the summer keeping your hands cool is a must. Although you can buy gloves that have mesh fitted for ventilation this can compromise the protection of the glove.
A far safer option is to buy gloves with perforated leather and knuckle vents.
Most good quality summer gloves are made from cow leather, kangaroo leather or goatskin. Some manufacturers now incorporate them all in one glove.

When purchasing Supermoto gloves the number one priority should be safety. Gloves should offer adequate protection from impacts and scrapes in the event of a fall.
