Virtually every Supermoto boot for sale is an adapted Motocross boot with a replaceable and slideable sole. To date no manufacturer has made a purpose built Supermoto boot however there are many excellent Motocross boots to choose from that are suitable for Supermtoto.
What to look for?
A Supermoto boot takes an all over beating in a race so you want a boot that gives protection around the calf, shin, ankle and toe areas. The boot should be light as possible but still give excellent structural strength, you also want the boot to be flexible enough to give great feel of the gear shifter and rear brake. The boot also wants to have a rubber gaiter at the top to effectively seal out elements.
The removable soles are normally fixed on by Allen headed screws for easy replacement which is just as well as they can quickly become worn from sliding on the asphalt. The boot wants to be full grain leather with an impact and abrasion resistant PU shell. They normally fasten by 4 buckles which have a quick release / locking system with a self aligning design for ease of operation.
The popular choice
If you look at most starting grids of a Supermoto race it obvious to see that the Alpinestars Tech 8 boot is the most popular choice. The Tech 8 boot has been dominant in motocross for quite some time and is firmly making its mark in Supermoto. It protects your feet brilliantly, looks great, is reasonably priced and has resolable soles.
We would greatly appreciate your opinion on what boots you wear on the Forum, the pros, cons and any suggestions of what boots you would purchase next.
